Valentine's Day stories, ideas and facts

When the page of the calendar skips from January to February, all florists are getting prepared for the busiest day of the year: Valentine’s Day. Romance is beginning to fill up the air for both men and women. It’s that time again to express our love and affection to those who are most important to us. And naturally, sending flowers is the best idea of all.

Surveys conducted in the Netherlands indicate that 85% of women remember the last time they got flowers, so guys should understand that giving flowers gives a lasting impression and is therefore a great choice. Perhaps surprisingly, the same survey showed that men place a high value on romance: more then 80% believe that simple romantic gestures, like giving flowers, are important for a relationship. This proves that men aren’t just action minded baboons, but are becoming emotional heroes too. I think it’s important to mention that guys like to receive flowers too, so ladies… In fact, 73% of people who buy flowers on Valentine's Day are men, so women are terribly falling behind. And the 27% of women who buy flowers? I bet the half of them buys flowers (and boxes of chocolate or ice cream) for themselves.

Flowers have been popular throughout history

It has withstood the test of time: flowers are the universal symbol of romance and love. In the end, roses are the most romantic flowers of all. Professional florist can offer lots of choices among roses. Just take a look at Flowers4Florists and check out what’s in store.

If you’re getting the same thing every year though, it can be an idea to get something different then the traditional red roses. For example, a bouquet of fresh spring flowers like tulips, freesia’s, irises, daffodils and hyacinths is really easy (and cheap) to get this time of year. I guarantee they will give just as much pleasure and satisfaction to your loved ones! These flowers don’t only look wonderful, they have special fragrances as well. And of course, the prices for red roses are going sky high around Valentine’s Day, while other flower prices normally just go up a bit.

Since Valentine’s Day is on a Saturday this year, it can be an idea to get the flowers early in the week. This way you can really surprise, while the flowers are still in excellent condition on the 14th. Besides, having flowers delivered just before or on Valentine’s Day can cause lots of stress.

Some more romantic flower ideas, just to get you started: have flowers waiting on the breakfast table or on the car seat before work; have a centrepiece delivered to a restaurant in advance of a Valentine dinner; hide a ring box or a bracelet within a fresh floral bouquet; or send theatre tickets tucked into a basket of blossoms.

Best regards and have a romantic, colourful and flowery Valentine's Day,

Sander van Rootselaar

P.S.: It will be best to have the flowers delivered on the 11th or 12th of February. This way you'll have enough time to make all the arrangements and the flowers have time to recover from the shipment and open up nicely.
