Smelling flowers may make you better!

Garden therapy or Baug therapy is similar to aromatherapy in that a person connects with the aroma or essence of a flower. Many essences have calming effects, making a person think more clearly or helping them relax.

EVER REALISED why roses make you happy or cactuses make you angry? The colour, the smell and the feel of certain flowers is said to originate positive energy as per one's personality type. Using these properties of flowers is also known as garden therapy which helps one find the cure specific to their personality.
Going natural is always preferred over medication. Garden therapy or Baug therapy is similar to aromatherapy in that a person connects with the aroma or essence of a flower. Many essences have calming effects and are also good as tranquillisers. Some make one think more clearly while others help them relax.
“Oils or essence have always helped people overcome their troubles. Once you know which essence suits you, you can work on getting your chemical balance right”, says Abhinav Sinha, a media trainee.

The therapy is useful for those who suffer from any psychosomatic sickness due to stressful lifestyles. “It is important to retain chemical balance in the body. Otherwise one can develop mentalaliments like fear, depression, sadness and sense of rejection”, says Malvika Malik, a microbiology teacher.

Another lady, Shyama Kapoor, explains her experiences with such therapy. “I treated my daughter who had locked up so many emotions; it was difficult to counsel her properly. She had a lot of dormant anger. Later, I learnt that she could not cope up with a friend's death.” Kapoor claimed that she took her daughter for garden therapy which helped her out of her depression.

Many people have derived benefits from this therapy. “I had a major blood pressure problem. I tried home therapy as well as other medicines, but nothing was working. Then somebody suggested garden therapy. It triggers positive thoughts and positive reaction into my body”, says Varun Lal, a businessman.

Recently out of hospital, Kanika Rai was asked to undergo this therapy as she was going through neurotic depression. ”Everything would get to me. I couldn't think right and was always under pressure. A friend suggested the therapy and I went for it. The results were positive”, she says.

Although this therapy helps in creating a positive outlook, some are still struggling to come to terms with what bothering them. Few things are more pleasing than the fragrance of flowers. So, wake up and smell their essence.
