Flower trends Summer 2009: Botanical Energy

“Whether we are talking traditional, stylish or contemporary flowers this summer, green is the dominant colour,” says arranger Angelique Diks. “Botanical Energy is a dynamic theme and allows you to bring nature indoors.”
“The arrangements in this trend have natural contours and are presented against a background of plain or coloured glass, wood, ceramic or concrete. Glass is back with a vengeance and goes well with the fresh, transparency of summer. You can see the water and what is happening inside the vase and this exudes calm.

To achieve maximum effect it is essential to keep the surroundings calm as well. This is why green should be given a starring role, both in terms of floral work and in the wallpaper, fabrics and other soft furnishings and decorations used in the home or shop. The effect can be achieved without the need for a paperhanger or paintbrush. A wall can be made green by standing a shelving unit filled with flowers and plants against it.

Over statement is the magic word. Add green to green and yet more green to create an inspiring green indoor world.”

Tip: focus on veins
In this trend, leaf veins are the ultimate expression of naturalness. No wonder we find the Anthurium the centre of attention. The attractively coloured leaf veins can be used as the point of departure for the rest of the arrangement.

It goes without saying that foliage is used in many guises, for example as an unusual base against the inside wall of a transparent vase. There is also plenty of pottery decorated with leaf veining as well as many fabrics and wall coverings involving leaf designs. Welcome nature indoors!
